![]() Such is the case of Akudama Drive, an anime with the shiny cyberpunk look you know and love and also some timely commentary on the role of police in authoritarian states. There have been so many cyberpunk titles in recent years that seem to forget why the genre exists in the first place that the few that actually embrace the "punk" roots of the setting are all the more special. Today, though, the genre is mostly used as a pretty aesthetic rather than as a vessel to tell poignant stories. And you can always re-read it a thousand times.Cyberpunk is one of the most easily identifiable genres in sci-fi, with a unique look and a tradition of hard-biting social commentary. If you're into details about their families and stuff you'll be disappointed, but the main information about their lives is enough to live by. There's nothing too wild about it, but it's still very beautiful to see.īecause it's a fairly short story, there's not much background over the characters, only the necessary for you not to be lost in the plot. The serialization was made by Canna and the art was drawn by the writter itself, so I guess they match significantly. Also, everything is very smooth and life-like paced, so don't expect wild stuff to happen. ![]() Though this is not the most original plot ever, it's very enjoyable, and the relationships between the protagonists from both stories are very interesting to watch. Inside this Akudama volume, in chapters 4 and 5, there is a second story, revolving around the relationship of two actors, Ichinose and Fumiyo, who are involved in the project of a yaoi movie/drama (because yes), and their relationship inside/outside the project. One can imagine how the plot goes from there on - Harata asks Morisaki for some stuff, and Morisaki ends up having a *hard* time because of that ) (no puns intended, sorry). The difference? Well, this someone now is threatening this kids' reputation with some evidence of his ![]() It's relatively new to the market, and even though it's not the most original story ever made, is actually quite enjoyable if you're suited for a more slow-paced and a bit less steamy yaoi kind of style.Īs I said before, Akudama doesn't have the most complicated of the plots: The first one is about that ordinary and perfectly normal kid, Morisaki, who suddently had a rebellious moment in front of someone, an adult called Harata. Ichinose and Fumiyo make plans to meet at a restaurant in Chiba on an ordinary day.Īkudama is a cute little shounen-ai manga written by Yuuko Yoshida. Other than being sure of his own heart, Ichinose finds it unclear which parts of their relationship are only fiction. But Ichinose has not gotten any better at acting-the heightened chemistry between them is due to his genuine feelings for Fumiyo. When Fumiyo agrees to spend time with the inexperienced Ichinose outside of work, the latter's performance greatly improves. Kei Ichinose and Fumiyo Tabuchi are co-stars in a gay romance currently being filmed for television. But as if one bad deed had diminished all his inhibitions, Morisaki gradually becomes less resistant toward their meetings. Whether asked to follow Harata to an amusement park or to a love hotel-Morisaki cannot refuse him anything. ![]() In exchange for withholding the evidence, Harata demands that Morisaki keep him company and entertain him. It is his great misfortune that his first time was caught on camera by Youhei Harata, an older man with no meaningful relationships or passions in life. Promising young student Tadahiko Morisaki is being blackmailed over the petty crime of shoplifting pencil lead.
